Dr. Timothy MatlackIt is a singular honor for me to rejoin the Mounts community in the role of superintendent.  From 2007-2022, I was fortunate enough to serve in a number of roles within the Antietam School District.  For ten years, I taught at the Middle-Senior High School in the Language Arts Department.  For the next five years, I was given the opportunity to be an assistant principal K-12, athletic director and curriculum supervisor.  In that time, I came to understand Antietam for the unique, supportive and tenacious community that it is.  From 2022-2024, while I was the Director of Teaching and Learning at Tulpehocken Area School District, I thought often of Antietam and leapt at the opportunity to return now.

As superintendent, I believe firmly in four tenets.  First, that a shared, clear purpose and aspirational vision that directs action creates coherence for people and systems.  Second, that trust is vital, and that trust is built on shared values.  Third, that schools are successful because of people and not programs.  Lastly, I believe that because people are the drivers of success, investing in people is imperative.

I wholeheartedly embrace the district’s mission statement that Together We: Encourage Learners, Inspire Growth, Celebrate Community.  This is the purpose for which the district exists.  It is this purpose that will guide all decisions that we make as a school district and as a part of the wider Antietam community to build a better experience for the families we serve.

There is work to be done ahead.  Challenges are inevitable.  However, I take full comfort in knowing that no one—including me—will face them alone.  When confronted together, challenges become opportunities.  When Mounts climb together, every opportunity leads to new and better heights.  I'm ready to climb and I can't wait to get started with all of you.
