The quickest way to process this clearance is to log on to https://epatch.pa.gov/ and pay by credit card. You will receive instantaneous results if no record existas. If you do not have access to a computer, you should complete an mail the "PA State Police Request for Criminal Record Check" to the PA State Police at the address listed on the right side of the form with an $22.00 money order (see below).
This for may be processed electronically at www.compass.state.pa.us/CWIS. You may still complete and mail the PA Child Abuse History Clearance form to ChildLine and Abuse Registry, Department of Public Welfare (see below). Along with this form, you will need to attach an $8.00 money order (*Effective 7/1/18 the fee will increase to $13.00) made payable to Department of Public Welfare. This background check is required for all those who work with children. Background checks must be renewed every five (5) years.
This standardized form has been developed by the Pennsylvania Department of Education, pursuant to Act 168 of 2014, to be used by school entities and independent contractors of school entities and by applicants who would be employed by or in a school entity. Applicant must have last (or current) employer fill out application section, as well as any previous employers where the applicant worked directly with children.
